Blogs on Web Analytics
One of best and at the same time most challenging “features” of the web are web analytics: The ability to track visitors and their behaviour on site, real time. The ability to perform experimental tests regarding new environments. The ability to gain insights, optimise, and achieve advantages. But - and it’s a major but - tracking and analysing doesn’t work scientifically correct yet:
2 analyst, using 2 different tracking methodologies or even tools (with the same underlying methodologies), achieve at least 2 results. 3 at least 3 … and so on. If you’re analysing data from server-logs or web beacons or JavaScript-tags or packet sniffers: you’ll end up with different numbers regarding the same web-site and the same period. And I’m talking about double-digit challenges here! The NYT asked “How Many Site Hits?” some days ago and will give you a first monetary impression of these challenges.
Nevertheless there’s nothing beyond web analytics: You’ll have to know what’s going on. You’ll have to follow changes as your site/s and visitors and their objectives change daily - not to mention your business objectives. - The following blogs on web analytics will provide you with state of the art information to keep you on track.
