Browser Sizes: Maximized?
Thomas Baekdal offers an excellent report on actual browser sizes. The most important fact: higher screen resolutions do not lead to higher browser resolutions inevitably. To summarize: “… in order to support 95% of your visitors, you need to design for a maximum size of 776×424px … (fixed layout) or between 720×400px to 1408×912px (fluid layouts)”.
Baekdal’s data and insights help ending the old screen resolution’s discussion … and opens a new one. - Personally I can add that I’m not browsing maximized. My two screen resolutions used are 1680×1050px and 1680×1200px and the browser size is about 1050×1050px.
